Brent Garell - The Kitchen Roadie
A McMaster University graduate, Brent began his career working as a Human Resource professional in banking before diving into the world of cooking.
In 2006 Brent walked away from his secure job and began pairing his collection of flavorful low-fat, calorie-conscious recipes with popular song suggestions. His goal was to create a fun cookbook that focused on overcoming the mental and time barriers we often face when it comes to healthy cooking.
It was during this time a friend suggested, he enter one of the recipes from his book in a local Whole Foods Market "secret ingredient" recipe contest. His recipe took top prize and Brent was suddenly thrown into the culinary world as he demonstrated his dish at the competition's finale alongside head judge Chef Michael Olson of the Niagara Culinary Institute.
His cookbook called The Cook-a-Palooza Experience debuted in December 2008. The book's easy-to-follow format and music suggestions quickly cultivated popularity with college /university students and those starting out in the kitchen.
Brent has since traded in his business suit and has been a guest on numerous TV and radio shows and has performed cooking demonstrations at events such as the Good Food Festival on the Food Network's "Get Cooking" stage. He now finds himself traveling from universities to colleges, delivering his energized and interactive Cook-a-Palooza cooking classes using recipes from his companion book The Cook-a-Palooza Experience.
